No questions: confident win and Nb1 for next year! – ELTE BEAC Kosárlabda

No questions: confident win and Nb1 for next year!

We had control of the game against ZTE from the first minute to the last and our 20-point halftime lead ended up being 40 points by the end.  Mathematically it is for certain that we are staying in the first league next year as well!

The ZTE game started with a moment of silence.  In the 45th year of his life, Balázs Kis has passed. He was a former referee, a controller of the Hungarian Basketball Federation, and the father of our junior player.  We respectfully bowed our heads in front of his memory.

The game started with bad shooting then Julcsi Boros dished an assist to Beatrix Mérész then to Janae Smith putting 4-0 on the scoreboard after 2 minutes.  We came out in a fighting spirit and even though our outside shooting was not on, team spirit was, so at 7-0, ZTE coach Péter Ambrus asked for his first timeout.  Dóra Szabó came int the game well and with her four points, the difference grew to double digits (11-0).  7 and a half minutes passed before Mányoky scored the first guest points from free throws (13-2).  Dóra Szabó and Beatrix Mérész we alive on offense setting the score at 22-6 after the first quarter.

After The 11th point from Beatrix Mérész and a nice play from Lili Zsámár and Alma Galántai, the difference reached 20 points at the beginning of the second quarter (26-6).  ZTE saw that they cannot fair well underneath the basket, so they started shooting from the outside and well: Saad, then Tuchscherer’s two triples allowed them to come back to 28-15.  Our head coach, Bubu Balogh asked for her timeout demanding communication from the girls.  We increased our points with some free throws even though missing some of them from the line.  Dorci Koch scored two triples in a row so the difference was over 20 points again which did not change until halftime, 38-18.

ZTE came out of the locker room with a different attitude for the second half.  Seemed like the first half was ‘killed’ for them by the pressure of winning their first game while being behind by 20 points gave them the extra they were missing.  Their foreign players, Saad and Dzombeta, were in the lead in their quest to climb back.  Fortunately, Beatrix Mérész on our side kept scoring.  At 46-29, Bubu Balogh asked for a timeout.  Even though the difference did not shrink drastically, we started to make mistakes on offensive and on defense as well.  Dorci Koch’s third triple came at a good time which set the difference back to 20 points.  Szabó then Tuchscherer scored some points (49-32) then Dzombeta got a technical foul.  The points of Janae Smith, including an unusual alley-oop with Julcsi Boros, closed the third quarter with a 24-point lead (56-32).

The last period started with some useful moments by Zímea Czank – a basket and a foul, a steal and another drawn foul, went to her name.  Zalaegerszeg got tired form the climb and the big deficit and we finally played as a team.  Everyone got to play in the last period and the girls made sure that everyone scored in this winning and confident game.

The end was almost a forty-point win and the third winning game in a row means that we will be playing in the first league next year was well!

ELTE BEAC Újbuda – ZTE NKK 83-45 (22-6, 16-12, 18-14, 27-13)

BEAC: Czank 4, Koch 9/9, Boros 4, Mérész 17, Smith 12. S:  Szabó D 7/3, Galántai 3, Zsámár 2, Juhász 7, Dusanic 11, Laufer 5, Dénes 2.

ZTE: Dzombeta 10, Mányoky 8/6, Kulcsár, Szabó P 8, Tuchscherer 11/6. S: Saad 8/6, Horváth Fr., Horváth Fa, Dömötör.

Judit Balogh: We prepared and we didn’t, we played well, and we didn’t, we played offense and we didn’t, and we played defense and we didn’t.  We are cunning like that.  We are in an incredible winning streak which we hope, will never break.

Péter Ambrus: We would have liked to win our first game, and this put a lot of pressure on the girls.  The game improved a bit from the second quarter onwards, but we got tired by the last quarter from trying to come back.  We returned to the beginning of the pre-season a bit because that is when we played games with such a big difference.  I hope that we will find our spring form soon.

Tímea Czank: I didn’t shoot well today so I tried to be useful in other areas.  Scoring is not always happening, but the most important thing is that we won. Happy birthday to Lili Zsámár.

Deanna Tuchscherer: This game did happen the way we had hoped but we still have five games to go so we are hoping that we can still get our first win.
